We've probably all heard that if you can't pronounce it, you shouldn't be putting it on or in your body. But in this modern world with the average woman putting more than 515 chemicals on her body every day, it can be really hard and really expensive to do that. Or it can be really easy. If you are the type that can use coconut or olive oil as your moisturizer, baking soda as your toothpaste and deodorant, live without makeup and wrinkle creams, more power to you. I am not that kind of girl. Sometimes I really wish I was, but in this life you've got to be true to who you are, and frankly, I am just a little too high maintenance for that. I mean, to be honest and all.
So there are some things I avoid, and there are somethings I'm okay with. A big one that I hear about is sulfates. People want soap and shampoo with no sulfates and they don't even know why. Sulfate is a detergent. It can strip the skin of oils and some people are very sensitive to the effects of sulfates on their skin and hair. I am not one of those people. Therefore, I use products that may have sulfates in them because for me that is not a deal breaker.
Parabens, no. Parabens are used in food, pharmaceuticals and personal care products as a preservative and have been found in breast tumors. They are a NO. Urea, um I'm pretty sure that either comes from pee or is synthetic pee, and in either case, no thank you. And seriously, if you start looking, good god its everywhere! We're all wearing pee!
